JAKARTADAILY.ID - The pair of Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Demokrat Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) indicates a good impact on fulfilling the public's sentiment that requires changes in the upcoming 2024 presidential election (Pilpres).
This was conveyed by A Khoirul Umam, a political observer from Paramadina University in Jakarta on Sunday, February 6, 2022.
According to him, Baswedan and AHY might build a different political power from the circle of power supporting the current government.
"If the public sentiment for change is managed well (by Anies and AHY teams), then the people (possibly) would want a presidential-vice presidential candidate who does not represent the current government," said Umam.
Moreover, the IndoStrategic political research institute recently investigated the political power arising from public sentiment.
The political observer stated that the IndoStrategic hypothesis is that the public sentiment in the 2024 election demands changes.
The desire for change emerged after IndoStrategic observed growing public dissatisfaction with several policies.
These policies include ratifying the Job Creation Act and the KPK Law, the establishment of the BRIN, and several infrastructure projects that encumber state finances.
However, the opportunity for Anies Baswedan and AHY to join in the upcoming 2024 presidential election could be hampered if there is a refusal from the ruling party.
"The rulers who are not happy with Anies meeting AHY may use all means to prevent the union of the two figures. But keep in mind, the power of public sentiment can change everything," added Umam, quoted by Antara.
For example, he mentioned how Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and Jusuf Kalla won the 2004 presidential election and how Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla won the 2014 presidential election.
The two victories proved that public sentiment can be a political force to be reckoned with.
Anies Baswedan currently serves as the Governor of Jakarta, but his term of office will expire on October 16, 2022.
