JAKARTADAILY.ID – Indonesia has emerged victorious at the 2023 International Federation Of Sport Climbing World Championships held in Seoul, South Korea, with Veddriq Leonardo clinching the championship for his country.
Veddriq made history by breaking the world record in the qualifying round for the speed category, scaling a 15-meter climbing wall in under 5 seconds. He then went on to win a gold medal in the final round, defeating two Chinese rock-climbing athletes.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) congratulated and appreciated Veddriq's hard work, stating that his achievement was a source of national pride. Jokowi also noted that the success of Veddriq and his fellow rock climbers at the championship could be a significant boost for Indonesia's prospects at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

In a post on his Instagram account, Jokowi wrote, "From Indonesia, I congratulate you. The achievements of these rock climbing athletes will be a strong capital for Indonesia to face the 2024 Olympics in Paris."
Desak athlete Made Rita Kusuma Dewi also brought glory to Indonesia by winning a bronze medal for the Women's Speed event, finishing behind two Polish athletes.
With these impressive performances, Indonesia is well-positioned to excel in rock climbing at the upcoming Olympics, with Jokowi expressing confidence that Veddriq could bring home a gold medal for his country.
