Number of Casualties Rise to 50 in Natuna Landslide in the Riau Islands

JAKARTADAILY.ID – The police released the number of victims who died as a result of the landslide disaster that occurred in the Serasan District, Natuna Regency, Riau Islands, Monday, March 6, 2023

As of Thursday, March 16, 2023, a total of 50 people who have died in the landslide disaster have been recorded and identified.

"50 victims died, the Riau Islands Police have recorded and identified 50 victims (people)," said Karo Penmas, Public Relations Division of the National Police, Brigadier General Pol Ahmad Ramadhan, quoted on Friday, March 17, 2023.

The victims who are still being declared and are currently still in the search process are missing totaling 4 victims.

"Until now there are still 4 victims who are declared missing. The search continues, both the National Police, the TNI, and other stakeholders," he explained.

Previously, the Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Lt. Gen. Suharyanto conducted a survey of the locations affected by landslides on Serasan Island, Natuna Regency, Riau Islands, Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

During the review, the Head of BNPB ordered that search, rescue, and evacuation efforts be a top priority. Furthermore, Suharyanto also requested that the fulfillment of the basic needs of the refugees be carried out during the emergency response.

Furthermore, the Head of BNPB also said that the government would relocate settlements of residents who were affected by the disaster or who were in landslide-prone locations.

The local government was asked to immediately prepare the land so that the construction of permanent housing for the relocation of Serasan residents can begin immediately.

The government plans to build 100 relocation houses with the BNPB's rehabilitation and reconstruction funds by involving the PUPR Ministry in the construction process.
