JAKARTADAILY.ID - Xiaomi Indonesia, the local arm of a Chinese consumer electronic manufacturer sealed an agreement with Octopus, an Indonesian-based platform that promotes a circular economy, in a project to encourage the Indonesian public to participate in recycling electronic waste.
In a statement sent to JakartaDaily.id on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, Xiaomi Indonesia said the cooperation with Octopus is part of its innovation in the supply chain area to educate consumers in the world's fourth most populous nation about the importance of recycling electronic waste.
Xiaomi Indonesia is the local arm of the Beijing-based consumer electronic firm, which today is one of the world's largest smartphone and consumer electronics makers.

On Sunday, June 26, 2022, Xiaomi held an event titled 'Octopus Takes Over Jakarta' for symbolic donations that were attended by Xiaomi Fans and employees.
This event was part of the Jakarta Aware for Garbage Week (Pekan Gerakan Jakarta Sadar Sampah), a movement initiated by Jakarta provincial government through its environmental office to celebrate Indonesia's capital city's 495th anniversary on June 22.
The symbolic donation is the beginning of the Xiami Indonesia and Octopus cooperation to manage electronic waste through some drop-off points available at some chosen Xiaomi stores in Jakarta.
Wentao Zhao, Country Director of Xiaomi Indonesia said as a relatively young corporation, Xiaomi is committed to participating in a sustainable economy.
"We are aware of eco-friendly obligations. This is why we made a movement together with Xiaomi fans and our consumers to raise this awareness," Zhao said.
Octopus' CEO Moehammad Ichsan, said his company welcomes participation from technology brands like Xiaomi to join the wagon of circular economic campaigns in Indonesia.
"This will be important for us to further promote circular economy for a green and sustainable environment," he said.
This campaign does not apply only to Xiaomi consumers. Starting in July, the public can participate in the recycling of small-sized electronic waste at some chosen Xiaomi stores.
Octopus gained popularity recently as more Indonesian millennials are now more aware of the importance of making the planet healthy. The app took Hamish Daud, a popular actor among the millennials, as its Chief of Partnership.
