JAKARTADAILY.ID – Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that there were no Indonesian casualties in the flood that hit Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Local media outlets have reported at least two died, dozens of flights at King Abdulaziz International Airport were delayed, and schools forced to shut due to the flood that strucked on Thursday, November 24, 2022.
"So far, we have not received a report of Indonesian citizens falling victim to the disaster," said Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities at the Foreign Ministry, Judha Nugraha, in a written statement, as quoted by ANTARA on Saturday, November 26,2022.
Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Meteorology had said the city of Jeddah recorded 179 mm of rainfall between 08:00 AM and 14:00 PM on on Thursday, November 24,2022.
Nugraha cited information from Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah, which said the floodwaters had inundated most of the roads in the city. However, now it has gradually receded.
However, several areas, including underpasses, have remained submerged.
