JAKARTADAILY.ID – Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo received the ASEAN chairmanship relay from Cambodia on Sunday and will become the ASEAN Chair in 2023.
Jokowi received the symbolic gavel from the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, as a sign that Indonesia has become the Chair of ASEAN.
The handover was held at the Closing Ceremony of the 40th and 41st Summits and other Related Summits at the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel on Sunday, November 11, 2022.

"It is an honor for Indonesia to become the Chair of ASEAN in 2023. Indonesia's chairmanship will make ASEAN Matter: the Epicentrum of Growth," said President Jokowi in a press release.
Jokowi said ASEAN must become a stable and peaceful region, and become the anchor of world stability.
ASEAN must also consistently uphold international law and not act as a proxy for anyone.

President Jokowi also wants ASEAN to become a fast-growing, inclusive, and sustainable economic region.
Increasing the capacity of ASEAN institutions is also a concern of President Jokowi, in order to be able to answer the challenges of the next 20 years.
The President hopes that by 2045 ASEAN will be more adaptive, responsive, and competitive.

"All of this must be fought for in the ASEAN way, namely being consistent with the spirit of cooperation and fully implementing the ASEAN Charter," said President Jokowi.
At the end of his remarks, President Joko Widodo invited all ASEAN leaders to attend the ASEAN Summit in Indonesia next year.
