Britain's Queen Elizabeth II Passes Away at 96

JAKARTADAILY.ID – Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 on Thursday, September 8, 2022, local time. The Queen who has reigned for 70 years died peacefully in her sleep at Balmoral Castle, Scotland, England.

In a letter uploaded by the UK's official royal social media account, Queen Elizabeth's first child, Prince Charles, expressed his condolences.

“The Death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family. We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by the countless people around the world,” Prince Charles wrote in the statement.

Thousands of people gathered in front of Buckingham Palace, City of London to express their condolences.

They all fell silent and bowed their heads as the flag was lowered to half-mast.

Queen Elizabeth last worked on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, when she inaugurated Britain's new Prime Minister, Elizabeth Truss.

Queen Elizabeth II, herself is listed as the ruler of England with the longest tenure. She was sworn in as queen on February 6, 1952, meaning Queen Elizabeth had served 70 years until her death.
