Australia Promises to Send 1 Million Vaccines to Help Indonesia Deal with FMD

JAKARTADAILY.ID – The Australian Government through the Australian Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry Murray Watt promised to provide assistance with 1 million vaccines to help Indonesia treat Foot and mouth disease (FMD).

"We have prepared 1 million vaccines for PMK. We will send them to Indonesia in August, in a few weeks," said the Australian Minister of Agriculture during a meeting with Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo at the Ministry of Agriculture office on July 14, 2022.

As reported by the official website of the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, Murray Watt said, Australia as a country that has a geographical location close to Indonesia pays special attention to this issue.

In addition to the vaccine, the Australian government will also provide assistance of AUD 500 thousand for training medical personnel to deal with FMD.

"I know that the Indonesian government is very concerned about the spread of FMD and we also share the same concern for this problem," continued Murray Watt.

Meanwhile, Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo said that many things were discussed in his meeting with Murray Watt, especially cooperation in agriculture and animal husbandry.

"We discussed many things, global issues, challenges of climate change, and the needs of the two countries both in securing agriculture in Indonesia and Australia," said Syahrul Yasin Limpo.

In addition to the FMD issue, there were 2 other important points that were discussed, namely the MoU between the Governments of Indonesia and Australia in the field of Agriculture and Livestock which was increasingly comprehensive, and the readiness of Australia and Indonesia to face food shortages caused by climate change.

It is hoped that this cooperation agreement will further strengthen friendly relations between Indonesia and Australia.
