Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe Confirmed Dead After Being Shot at a Political Campaign Event

JAKARTADAILY.ID - Former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe has passed away after getting shot in an assassination, he was 67.

The former prime minister was giving campaigning and giving a speech in Nara when he was shot. He was then rushed to the hospital, after "showing no vital signs." The assailant used what was reported to be a homemade shotgun.

Japanese and international media outlets reported the influential politician died later in the hospital.

NHK World reported that Japan's Liberal Democratic Party officials said former Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo has died.

Previously, a reporter from the Japanese public broadcaster (NHK), heard what sounded like two gunshots at around 11:30 a.m. The reporter saw Abe collapse and bleed before he was taken to the hospital.

At the time, NHK World had reported that Japanese police had arrested the 41-year-old Yamagami Tetsuya for attempted murder.

CNBC quoted Dr. Hidetama Fukushima at the Nara Medical University Hospital, who operated on Abe.

In an article published Friday, July 8, 2022, titled "Japan’s former PM Shinzo Abe dies from injuries after being shot," CNBC said the former prime minister was confirmed dead on Friday evening local time, after being rushed to the emergency room.
