The police reported that "the deceased is the Indonesian citizen who had an accident in the Aare on May 26, 2022," most likely Emmeril Khan Mumtadz the son of West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, who had been missing for 14 days.
Emmeril, or Eril's body was found Wednesday at 6:50 am local time.
Specialists from the maritime police of the Bern cantonal police were able to locate a body in the overflow basin of the weir and then salvage it. It could only be determined that the man was dead.
The police then carried out a forensic investigation procedure until they were finally able to confirm that the body found was that of Eril.
"The forensic investigations carried out in the meantime revealed that the deceased was the Indonesian national who had been missing in the area since Thursday, May 26, 2022," the police said in the report.
"The 22-year-old went swimming in the river and got into an emergency. He drowned as a result of this accident," they added.
The press release published by the Bern police said that since Eril went missing, intensive search measures had been carried out. Numerous emergency services searched for the missing person on both land and water.
Drones, boats, divers, and police dogs were deployed to search for Eril who went missing, and now all investigations are complete, the report stated.
Eril's family and friends had been waiting desperately for news about their missing son, both his mother and girlfriend had posted pictures of Eril, with captions saying how much they miss him and wish for him to come home.
