Labor Minister Ida Fauziah: Australia's New PM Anthony Albanese Brings New Hope for Indonesian Workers Abroad

JAKARTADAILY.ID – The Indonesian Minister of Manpower, Ida Fauziah expressed her hope and optimism for the new government in Australia under the leadership of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for the Indonesian workforce.

Minister Ida said, Indonesia's geographical location, which is close to Australia, provides a great opportunity for the placement of workers in the Kangaroo Country.

"We are optimistic that Australia can open wider doors for Indonesian workers. We need to explore fields such as agriculture, mining, mechanics, and hospitality (hotels/restaurants) in order to absorb more skilled workers from Indonesia," said Minister Ida in a statement uploaded on his website Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

Currently, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries for placement in the agricultural sector is being discussed. Minister Ida will continue to push for the process to be accelerated.

"PM Albanese's visit to Mr. Joko Widodo makes us want to realize the placement of workers in Australia. Hopefully, in the not too distant future an agreement can be reached," she added.

Minister Ida also guarantees that placements to Australia will only be filled by skilled workers. The competence of prospective migrant workers is the main focus of the Ministry of Manpower.

Improvements in the soft skills and communication skills of Indonesian Migrant Workers are also emphasized, in addition to technical competence.

Through training at the Job Training Centers owned by the central government, local governments, the private sector, and the community, the Minister of Manpower believes that the quality of the Indonesian workforce will not disappoint.

"Once again I congratulate PM Anthony Albanese and all the ranks of this new government. This optimism will encourage us to overcome various challenges so that labor cooperation between us can be more tangible," she concluded.
