JAKARTADAILY.ID – Indonesians can be a mischievous bunch, especially on the internet. Recently, Indonesians have been leaving bad reviews of the Aare River in Bern, Switzerland, on Google Maps.
These bad reviews were posted after the disappearance of Emmeril Khan Mumtadz, the son of the West Java Governor, Ridwan Kamil.
Indonesians "memed" (i.e. made jokes) on the Google page and screenshots were shared around.
“Hello, Indonesian citizens who are virtuous, intelligent, and cultured. Please express your condolences for the misfortune that happened to Eril, Mr. RK's eldest son. But! Yes, not on Google Maps, either! Like there's no other container!” wrote the account, quoted from Hai-onilne.com, Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
In the upload, screenshots of a number of netizens' comments are shown in a Google Maps review.
Some were being respectful and posted their prayers in the comments section.
"Hopefully they will be found soon, safe and sound. Amen, Amen, Amen," wrote one account. "Hopefully you will meet Kang Emil's son, Amen," wrote another.
The comments that flooded Google Maps mostly contained words of prayer, there were also netizens who gave negative reviews and gave one star for the location even though they had not necessarily been to the place it was labeled.
I don't recommend it, my friend, because it has harmed Indonesians," wrote one naughty account.
"Hopefully shamans in Switzerland can help with livelihoods," wrote another account while giving one star.
"The river is beautiful and clean but unfortunately there is a waiting person asking for sacrifice," wrote another user.
A number of other netizens even commented while actually uploading pictures of rivers in Indonesia and providing reviews that were out of context.
