JAKARTADAILY.ID – Russian troops captured the city of Lyman and surrounded most of Sievierodonetsk, in Eastern Ukraine, on Friday, May 27, 2022.

Ukrainian officials admit they were outnumbered, prompting Kyiv forces to retreat due to the rapid advance of Moscow's offensive over the past few weeks.

Earlier, Ukraine vowed that its troops could still cling to a new line of defense in the eastern Donbas region.

Despite the fact that Russian troops are making progress on the two main fronts there, the latest battle shows how the situation has shifted in Russia's favor.

Moscow's separatist proxies say they have complete control of Lyman, a railway hub that Russia has attacked from the north.

Ukrainian officials confirmed the claim, later admitting that Russia had indeed captured most of the city.

Despite being heavily cornered, Ukraine's Defense Ministry said troops were still holding out in the northeast and southwest districts.

The remaining troops were aimed at deterring the Russians from launching an attack on Sloviansk, a major city half an hour's drive southwest of the battle site.
