JAKARTADAILY.ID – The 42nd ASEAN Summit 2023 in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT) saw Indonesian President Joko Widodo hold bilateral meetings with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.
Following the meeting with Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim, Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi revealed that President Jokowi stressed the importance of resolving sea and land border issues, optimizing the One-Channel System, and protecting Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia.
The Malaysian PM extended an invitation to President Jokowi to visit Malaysia to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting with Lao PM Sonexay Siphandone, the two leaders discussed economic cooperation between Indonesian State-Owned Enterprises and Laos, including collaborations between PLN and Électricité du Laos, and procurement of aircraft from PT. DI for the Lao air force, procurement of trains from PT. INKA for the Petrotrade Laos Public Company.
The two leaders also emphasized the need to increase cooperation in eradicating human trafficking, a problem prevalent in ASEAN member countries.
On Wednesday, May 10, President Jokowi is set to chair five meetings, including a plenary format summit meeting and four interface meetings with parliament, youth, ABAC (business), and the high-level task force.
On Thursday, there will be a summit meeting in the form of a retreat and two sub-regional meetings, namely the IMT-GT and BIMP-EAGA. Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi noted that the Foreign Ministers had a preparatory meeting on Tuesday to finalize documents to be submitted to the summit.
