JAKARTADAILY.ID – The FIFA World Football Organization has officially removed Indonesia from hosting the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Thus, the polemic surrounding the FIFA U 20 World Cup 2023 in Indonesia has ended, which has emerged after many rejections of the presence of the Israeli national team.
"Following today's meeting between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and President of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir, FIFA has decided, due to the current circumstances, to cancel Indonesia from hosting the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup," a statement read. from the official FIFA website, Wednesday 29 March 2023.
"The new hosts will be announced as soon as possible, with the current tournament date remaining unchanged. Potential sanctions against PSSI may also be decided at a later stage," the statement added.
In its statement, FIFA also underlined that despite this decision, FIFA remains committed to actively assisting PSSI.
This assistance will be provided through close cooperation and with support from President Jokowi's government, in the process of transforming Indonesian football after the tragedy that occurred in October 2022.
FIFA team members will continue to have a presence in Indonesia in the coming months and will provide the necessary assistance to PSSI, under the leadership of President Thohir.
A new meeting between the FIFA President and the PSSI President for further discussions will be scheduled soon.
