The Safran helicopter engine turbine range is already certified to operate using 50 percent SAF and the Safran team is working to certify the use of 100 percent SAF. When a 100 percent compounding rate is reached, SAF offers a potential CO2 emission reduction of 80 percent.
All Airbus helicopters are currently certified to fly with up to 50 percent SAF blends with kerosene alloys, with a target to deploy 100 percent SAF in the future fleet. Airbus has launched the SAF User Group, a SAF user group dedicated to helicopter operators and associated partners in an effort to encourage the widespread use of biofuels. Airbus has also used SAF for helicopter pilot training and test flights at its facilities in France and Germany.
