Indonesian Government Pushes Vaccinations in Lombok Island Ahead of the MotoGP 2022

JAKARTADAILY.ID – The Indonesian government is pushing for more vaccination coverage in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, as the island gears to prepare for the MotoGP 2022 to be hosted in Mandalika, an area south of the island. 

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto said that after 70 percent of the population have been vaccinated with the second dose, the government will immediately prepare to organize for booster shots.

"Mataram is ready with 78 percent of the second dose of vaccination, West Lombok Regency has 57.9 percent, Central Lombok Regency 61 percent, East Lombok Regency 57 percent, and North Lombok Regency 69 percent. It is hoped that in January, February, and March 2022, the third dose of vaccination can be carried out," said Airlangga after attending a meeting on the Evaluation of the Implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) chaired by President Joko Widodo, at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, earlier this week.

Based on the MotoGP calendar, the Indonesian Grand Prix at the Mandalika Circuit will take place in March 2022. Previously in February, an official MotoGP test was scheduled at the circuit.

G20 preparation

In addition to the implementation of MotoGP, in 2022 Indonesia will also host the G20 meeting.

Airlangga said that the meetings to be held in the near future would be virtual and hybrid.
