JAKARTADAILY.ID - PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN, the only state-owned electricity provider in Indonesia, is preparing an Ultra-Fast Charging Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) in Bali, which will be the center of the G20 Summit held in October 2022. Apart from ensuring the reliability of electricity supply, PLN also provides infrastructure for charging electric vehicles.

In a press release published last weekend, PLN's Director of Commerce and Customer Management, Bob Saril explained that at the international meeting, many heads of state would use electric cars. Therefore, PLN will increase the operation of the SPKLU Ultra Fast Charging by 10 units, adding 10 units that have already been operated.

SPKLU Ultra Fast Charging is important because many cars from this head of state require more power, while the current SPKLU with a capacity of 150 kiloWatts (kW) is not sufficient. PLN will also cooperate with Hyundai to be able to build an SPKLU with a capacity of 300 kW to support a faster charging system.

"We are working with Hyundai on how much is needed. Because there is a Korean bank that wants to give the grant. We will focus on this in Bali. The head of state's car is based on electricity, which has a fairly large amount of electricity, so we will have ultra-fast charging," said Bob.

If with an SPKLU with a power of 150 kW, charging from 0 to 100 percent of a Hyundai Ioniq 5 car takes about 1 hour, then with an SPKLU with a power of 300 kW it only takes about 20 minutes.

Bob emphasized that PLN plays an active role in supporting the government to achieve the energy transition. Various efforts have also been made by PLN to support the transition to clean energy, one of which is by encouraging the acceleration of the electric vehicle ecosystem.

"We take an important part in this aspect. We are currently actively developing the climate for electric vehicles. With the ecosystem, the acceleration of electric vehicles can be achieved immediately," said Bob.

Bob revealed, based on the data currently available, of the 14,400 electric vehicles that have been operating, around 12 thousand more of them are electric motorcycles and 1,656 units are electric cars. PLN also continues to actively provide SPKLU to support the growth of electric vehicles.

"Currently, we have a total of 63 SPKLU units. Next year we will massively add this SPKLU.

Especially on toll roads. We will add more for Java-Bali next year and also for the Sumatran Toll Road so that electric vehicle owners no longer hesitate to use their electric vehicles. The electricity supply is safe,” said Bob.

Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor Asia Pacific, Lee Kang Hyun, explained that the collaboration with PLN in the success of the G20 event was a pilot project to increase the use of electric vehicles.
