JAKARTADAILY.ID - The World Tourism Organization under the United Nations (UNWTO) has designated Nglanggeran Tourism Village as the Best Tourism Village 2021, aka one of the best tourist destinations in the world. Located in the Nglanggeran Village, Kapanewon Patuk, Gunungkidul Regency, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, it managed to beat famous villages from various countries in the world.
This information was conveyed by the Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno in his Instagram account @sandiuno which we quoted on Wednesday (December 8, 2021).
"Alhamdulillah, thanks be to God Almighty, the Nglanggeran Tourism Village in Gunungkidul Regency has won the Best Tourism Village 2021 from the World Tourism Organization under the United Nations (@unwto)," said Sandiaga Uno.
Sandiaga added that this achievement was a breath of fresh air in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the pandemic and economic challenges, as well as job creation for the past 2 years.
“UNWTO selects the best villages based on tourism innovation and transformation. In line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which aim to maximize the contribution of tourism villages, JOBS, and reduce inequality in rural areas.
Thank you for the cooperation of all parties who have helped in making Nglanggeran Village the Best Tourism Village in 2021. This achievement is for all of us, "he concluded.
Nglaggeran Village is the only Indonesian representative to receive the award. Besides Nglanggeran Village, there are two other tourist villages that also represent Indonesia in the Best Tourism Villages 2021 event. The two villages are Tetebatu Tourism Village in East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara and Wae Rebo Village in Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara.

In this award event, the assessment for the best village is based on natural and cultural resources, as well as innovative and transformative actions and commitments to tourism development that are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). (*)
