JAKARTADAILY.ID - The Electrifying Lifestyle campaign has now become the main tool for PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN to accelerate the transition from gas stoves to induction stoves or electric stoves. This step is to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, both oil and gas. One tactic that PLN is doing is to offer a sizable discount for PLN customers who want to increase their household power capacity.
The state-owned electric company is offering a special price for added power of Rp 150 thousand through the Nyaman Kompor Induksi program or "Comfortable with Induction Stoves," where customers can get a discount by purchasing an induction stove with brands partnered with PLN.
According to PLN, the use of induction cookers can be more efficient when compared to LPG stoves. The results of the PLN trial show that cooking 1 liter of water using a 1,200-watt induction stove only costs Rp. 158. Meanwhile, with a 12-kilogram tube LPG stove, it is around Rp. 176. If you consider the cooking habits of the average people in Indonesia, they can save Rp. 28,500. - from the cost of cooking each month.
Previously, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir said the use of induction has the potential to save the state Rp 60 trillion.
"This is an acceleration of import suppression in the next 5 years, if we can convert kerosene to LPG, why not just convert LPG to electricity," Erick said at a press conference on March 31, 2021.
PLN's Director of Commerce and Customer Management Bob Saril said with more than 30 percent of power reserves in almost all electrical systems, PLN is ready to support the induction cooker conversion program. PLN is also currently rolling out the One Million Induction Cooker program. "PLN is also ready to roll out additional power discounts to make it easier for customers to switch to induction cookers," he said.
Last week, President Joko Widodo gathered the board of directors and commissioners of PT PLN and PT Pertamina. In one of his directives, the Head of State asked for an energy transition program to be implemented, such as the use of electric vehicles and induction cookers.
"If we can switch it to other energies, for example, all cars are replaced with electricity, all household gas is replaced with electricity because PLN is oversupply. This means that supply from PLN is absorbed, oil imports at Pertamina fall," said President Jokowi. (*)
