President Jokowi Orders Drug Industry to Tighten Up Supervision in Response to AKI Cases in Children

JAKARTADAILY.ID – president joko widodo (Jokowi) has ordered to tighten up the supervision of the drug industry in Indonesia. This is in response to cases of acute kidney failure in children in Indonesia.

"The most important thing is that the supervision of the drug industry must be tightened again. Everyone's duty is," said Jokowi at JIEXPO Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, Friday, October 21, 2022.

Furthermore, Jokowi said that the Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, had given an explanation regarding cases of acute kidney failure that many children experienced.

The Indonesian Ministry of Health confirmed that they have detected three harmful chemicals in children that are suffering from Acute Kidney Injury.

"The Ministry of Health has researched that the toddlers affected by AKI (Acute Kidney Injury) were detected to have three hazardous chemicals (ethylene glycol-EG, Diethylene Glycol-DEG, ethylene glycol butyl ether-EGBE)," explained the Indonesian Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin in a written statement on Thursday, October 20, 2022.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's FDA has recalled five syrup-based medicine that allegedly caused Acute Kidney Injury in children.

The results of sampling and testing on 39 batches of 26 medicinal syrups up to October 19, 2022, showed the presence of EG contaminants that exceeded the safe threshold in the following 5 (five) products.

4.Unibebi Fever Syrup (fever medicine), produced by Universal Pharmaceutical Industries with distribution license number DBL8726301237A1, Box packaging, Bottle @ 60 ml.

5.Unibebi Fever Drops (fever medicine), produced by Universal Pharmaceutical Industries with distribution license number DBL1926303336A1, Box packaging, Bottle @ 15 ml.
