Ashanty Could Be the First Celebrity Confirmed Positive for Omicron in Indonesia

JAKARTADAILY.ID – Indonesian celebrity Ashanty, the wife of musician Anang Hermansyah was confirmed to have been infected by Covid Omicron after vacationing in Turkey, according to a recent post on her Instagram account @ashanty_ash, accessed on Friday.

Ashanty could possibly be the first Indonesian celebrity confirmed to have been infected by the new variant.

Ashanty said that she uploaded the post so that her closest friends and the public do not get misinformation. The stepmother of Aurel Hermansyah confirmed that she tested positive in a PCR test upon returning to Jakarta from her vacation in Turkey

"Out there, sorry I have to post this so that the news is true, when I arrived in Indonesia I had PCR and the results were positive. I did two PCRs in Istanbul when I wanted to go home, at the hotel and at the airport the results were negative. Finally, when I arrived at the quarantine hotel, I waited. The PCR results from the airport turned out to be positive," Ashanty said in her post.

After being tested positive, Ashanty said she immediately went to the hospital to undergo quarantine at a hospital that had been approved by the Covid-19 Task Force. "Because I have an autoimmune disease and for the sake of mutual safety, I am self-isolating at the hospital," she said.

Ashanty explained that she did not feel any severe symptoms. "But I still carry out procedures according to my health, which has a congenital disease. And not self-quarantine or in a hotel, but in a hospital," she added.

Ashanty stated that she was in self-isolation at a hospital and not at the Wisma Atlet. "This isolation is a burden for the state if I am at the Athlete's House. I am in an isolation hospital and I am responsible for it myself."

According to the World Health Organization, the Omicron variant has a higher rate of transmission compared to the Delta Variant. Additionally, people who have been vaccinated twice are also likely to get reinfected with the Omicron variant.

Although the symptoms found are dominated by mild infections, it does not mean that health facilities will not be burdened. The reason is, if the number of cases continues to increase, the isolation or treatment room will be fuller and have an impact on health facilities.

Ashanty and her family are known to have traveled abroad for vacation some time ago, posting pictures of her trip on social media.
