JAKARTADAILY.ID – PT Bank Maybank Indonesia, Tbk. ("Maybank Indonesia") has initiated the Road to Maybank Marathon 2023 series in order to support the physical readiness of participants ahead of the Maybank Marathon 2023 race, scheduled to take place on August 27, 2023, at the Bali Safari & Marine Park in Gianyar, Bali. This series of activities kicked off today in the SCBD area of Jakarta.
The inaugural event for the Road to Maybank Marathon 2023 series was attended by Widya Permana, Maybank Project Director Marathon, Agung Mulyawan, Coach & Founder of Gantarvelocity, and Johan, a National Athlete. This series of training and educational activities aims to prioritize the safety and security of the running participants before their participation in the Maybank Marathon 2023 race.
Maybank Marathon is the first and only marathon event in Indonesia to bear the prestigious 'Elite Label' title from the World Athletics. It is also included in the calendar of World Athletics and Association of International Marathons and Distance Races ("AIMS") events in the major 'road running' category, as well as being listed as an official race in the Boston Marathon. Furthermore, Maybank Marathon is part of the 175 qualifying events for the World Championship marathon series, Abbott WMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings.

On a domestic level, the Maybank Marathon serves as a qualification event for running sports at the National Sports Week (PON), including the 2020 PON in Papua and the upcoming 2024 PON in Aceh-North Sumatra.
"As an elite label event, Maybank Indonesia always adheres to international standards in organizing the Maybank Marathon, which includes emphasizing the importance of practice and preparation before competing in the event through a series of Road to Maybank Marathon 2023 activities," said Widya Permana, Project Director of Maybank Marathon.
This year, Maybank Indonesia continues to promote the 'You Register, You Run' regulation, which was first introduced during the Maybank Marathon 2022. This rule requires participants to collect their race packs using the name under which they registered and prohibits representation by others.
Additionally, running slots are non-transferable, meaning participants can only run in the category they selected during registration. The 'You Register, You Run' rule is the first and only regulation of its kind implemented in Indonesia.
The Road to Maybank Marathon 2023 training and education activities will span fourteen weeks, starting from May 14 to August 13, 2023, leading up to the Maybank Marathon race. The program includes a comprehensive running training program that covers warm-up sessions, long-distance running (long run), strength training, running clinics, nutrition guidelines, and rest periods. Experienced running coaches are also involved in the series, providing expertise in sports recovery and mobility.
Apart from Jakarta, the Road to Maybank Marathon activities will be simultaneously and intensively held in major cities across Indonesia, including Medan, Bandung, Surabaya, Makassar, and Denpasar.

These activities involve the local running communities, aiming to surpass the participation numbers from previous years by reaching over 900 participants in each city, compared to the previous range of 200 participants. This collaborative approach fosters a spirit of togetherness among the runners.
During the kick-off event of the Road to Maybank Marathon, Maybank Indonesia introduced 42 pacers for Maybank Marathon 2023, who will be responsible for guiding and maintaining the runners' pace to achieve their target finish times. All pacers will be equipped with knowledge of first aid procedures to handle any emergencies that may arise during the Maybank Marathon 2023.
Widya explained that the Road to Maybank Marathon activities are essential for runners to participate in, as they prioritize health and assist participants in maximizing their preparations for the Maybank Marathon. "Our hope is that the series of Road to Maybank Marathon activities can provide guidance and insights for runners, enabling them to complete the race in good health and achieve their personal bests at the Maybank Marathon 2023 in Bali," concluded Widya.
