Meeting Between Minister of Education and Culture with the Smithsonian Institute Leads to Cooperation

JAKARTADAILY.ID – Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Anwar Makarim on Friday, September 23, 2022, witnessed the signing of a letter of intent with the Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art (NMAA), which is part of the Smithsonian Institution, one of the best museum and research institution in the world.

“We are deepening the relationship between Indonesia and the Smithsonian, particularly with the NMAA.

We also welcome opportunities for collaboration that encourage capacity building and knowledge exchange, as well as the chance to borrow extraordinary works of art from Indonesia to be exhibited at the NMAA” said Dr. Chase Robinson, Director of NMAA reported by kemdikbud.go.id, September 26, 2022.

Currently, the Ministry of Education through the Directorate General of Culture is making an organizational transition by establishing the Public Service Agency (BLU) for Museums and Cultural Heritage.

Under the Ministry of Education, this BLU was formed as a comprehensive ecosystem to facilitate the preservation, utilization, and management of collections, research, sites, and cultural objects.

"By consolidating museums and cultural heritage in one BLU, the Indonesian government can freely collaborate with the community, utilize resources to be more effective in preserving collections, create programs, and collaborate with various partners," said the Ministry of Education.

"After hearing your (Ministry of Education) vision, I am very supportive and will facilitate Indonesia's needs because we also want to learn more from Indonesia," continued Dr. Chase Robinson.

The Ministry of Education's working visit to the United States has two specific missions.

First, to encourage cooperation, both in the field of higher education with a number of universities as well as collaboration in the field of culture with the world's top research institutions and museums based in the US.
