JAKARTADAILY.ID – Ministry of Education said that they were proud of the success of the Indonesian Mathematics Olympiad Team in winning one silver medal, four bronze medals, and an honorable mention at the 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Oslo, Norway.

The oldest and largest science olympiad event in the world for high school students and is attended by 589 students from 104 countries.

"The results achieved by Indonesian students by getting one silver medal, four bronze medals, and one honorable mention are extraordinary achievements in the midst of various limitations experienced in the team coaching system during this pandemic," said Asep Sukmayadi, Acting Head of the National Achievement Center of the Ministry of Education, in a press statement, Sunday, July 17, 2022.

In the IMO competition which was held for two days, the participants were asked to work on six math problems, each consisting of three questions per day and had to be done in 4.5 hours.

These questions cover four fields, namely algebra, combinatorics, geometry, and number theory. The questions given are original questions with types of questions that have never been done by students before.

According to him, to be able to work on the questions, the participants are required to have quick thinking, mental calmness, and high creativity. Asep said that it is not uncommon for professional mathematicians to find it difficult to work on IMO questions within the timeframe given by the organizers.
